Pet Hospice Consultation
Coastal Pet Hospice provides quality of life assessments and personalized end-of-life care for pets in the Wilmington, NC area. Our veterinarians focus on treating elderly companion animals and those with terminal diseases in the comfort of their own home. The goal of pet hospice is to provide pain management, nutritional support, mobility and hygiene options until natural death occurs or the decision is made for humane euthanasia. Our home hospice service also prioritizes pet families, providing you with education and supporting you in making difficult decisions that come with advanced illness and aging. Our mobile services avoid the stress of traditional veterinary visits and provide a family-oriented approach to palliative care. If you feel your pet may be a candidate for hospice care, please contact us to schedule an appointment.
Deciding to say goodbye to a pet is one of the most difficult choices a family can make, but choosing to do so in the familiarity and comfort of the home can make the process more peaceful for you and your pet. We provide counseling services to help you determine when the time is right to consider euthanasia based on a personalized quality of life assessment. We administer euthanasia services in the most humane way possible. Your pet will be sedated at the beginning of the appointment and prior to euthanasia to alleviate any pain or anxiety and allow for a tranquil, dignified passing. If you feel your pet may be a candidate for an in-home euthanasia or you would like to discuss euthanasia options, please contact us to schedule an appointment. Every effort will be made to provide same day services if your pet’s condition requires.
Trigger point dry needling aims to decrease myofascial trigger points and the resulting muscle spasm and dysfunction. This differs from acupuncture in that acupuncture is based on the meridian energy channels, whereas dry needling aims in deactivating trigger points thereby reducing muscle pain. If it is decided that dry needling may be beneficial for your pet, the cost is included in the hospice fee.
Pet Cremation and Burial
Most families opt for pet cremation. We suggest Southeastern Pet Cremation and My Pet Passages in the Wilmington area. Please visit their websites to review cremation options and pricing to determine which best suits your family's needs. As a service, we will be glad to coordinate with the cremation provider of your choosing for transport. For home burial, please check local regulations as some subdivisions and municipalities have regulations regarding pet burial.
